72 hour kits: the following emergency preparedness kit is a list of suggested items. Please assess own family needs. It should be kept cool, dry & readily accessible. It can be stored in backpacks, duffle bags, suitcases, or 5 gallon buckets. (my preference is a back pack; it is easier to carry). Notes: update kit every 6 mos. (put a note in your calendar to make sure all food, water, and medications are rotated, clothing fits, personal documents & credit cards are up to date, and batteries are charged. Small toys/games are important too as they will provide some comfort & entertainment during a stressful time. Older children can be responsible for their own pack of items/clothes too. Include any other items you feel are necessary for your family’s survival. Some items & or flavors might leak, melt, ”flavor” other items, or break open. Dividing groups of items into individual Ziploc bags might help prevent this.

Protein/Granola Bars
Trail Mix/Dried Fruit
Crackers/Cereals (for munching)
Canned Tuna, Beans, Turkey, Beef, Vienna Sausages, etc ("pop-top" cans that open without a can-opener might not be a good idea because they can explode)
